Every tree, blooming shrub, and thriving garden tells a story—and many of those stories begin with Calvin, a retired urban gardener and resident of Parkview Elderly Apartments. For decades, Calvin dedicated himself to transforming city neighborhoods into lush, green spaces for all to enjoy.
“Gardening wasn’t just my job,” he says with a warm smile. “It’s my passion. I planted many of the trees, shrubs, and community gardens you see around the city. My goal was always to make neighborhoods beautiful.”
Even in retirement, Calvin’s love for plants hasn’t faded. He often shares his knowledge with neighbors, offering advice to those struggling with their houseplants. “Start with two plants,” he tells them. “Then add more when you’re ready. Water twice a week, feed them once. Don’t overdo it.” He knows that patience is key—both in gardening and in life.
His greatest pride, however, stands in the corner of his apartment: a towering seven-foot cactus that he has nurtured from a tiny seedling. “It’s taken thirty years to grow,” he says, admiring its strength. “It’s a reminder that with care and dedication, anything can flourish.”
At Parkview, Calvin isn’t just a resident—he’s an inspiration. His passion for greenery has left a lasting mark, making the community a more vibrant, welcoming place for everyone.
